To the surprise of many, 3M recently announced it would discontinue manufacturing the popular fire suppression chemical agent, Novec™ 1230™ Fire Protection Fluid by 2025.
The fire protection industry has experienced sudden shifts in product availability before with the EPA’s banning of Halon in the 1990s and more recently with the AIM Act’s phase down of hydrofluorocarbons (such as FM-200 and FE-25) by 2036.
This latest news from 3M is no different, as there will always be unpredictable changes in the fire protection industry. This is why Fike has consistently offered a variety of options to ensure that we have the perfect solution for any problem and that our customers are always protected.
Fike’s Alternative Solutions
Fike SF1230™ | Fire Protection Fluid (fluoroketones)
Drop-in replacement for new and existing 3M Novec 1230 installations. All batches of Fike SF 1230 are subjected to testing performed by an independent US-based ISO 9001-certified laboratory, is compliant with NFPA 2001 and ISO 14520, and is UL listed and FM approved.
FK-5-1-12 | Fire Protection Fluid (fluoroketones)
Possesses the same chemical structure and fire suppressing properties as Novec 1230; leaves no residue and has acceptable toxicity for use in occupied spaces at design concentration.
Fike Pure™ | IG-55, IG-541, IG-100, IG-01 Inert Gas
A natural and chemical-free fire system with zero global warming potential. Supports design flexibility with long pipe runs and small diameter, low-pressure piping.
Duraquench Pro®
Connects to the facility’s water main or local reservoir to provide unlimited discharge of low-pressure water mist suppression via a ski mounted centrifugal pump.
